This half day course is designed for any care workers who support individuals to eat and drink.


The course provides an introduction to the importance of nutrition, hydration and diet in regards to elderly people and those with physically disabling conditions. You will gain an understanding of how to support diet choices, how to identify and overcome concerns and how to record nutrition and hydration needs.

Our expert trainer can also add to the Nutrition and Hydration course with information about MUST, where you will: 

  • Gain the knowledge and skills to use the MUST

  • Understand the meaning of malnutrition and the associated causes and consequences

  • Be able to identify adults who are underweight and at risk of malnutrition

Nutrition and Hydration Awareness

What this course covers:

  • How to correctly identify individuals in care settings who need nutritional support
  • The procedures to identify those in need of nutritional support and an awareness of other factors that could be mistaken for poor nutrition/hydration
  • An understanding of what hydration and malnutrition mean
  • Common reasons and causes for poor nutrition and the symptoms of dehydration/malnutrition
  • Knowledge of person-centred approaches to nutrition and good practice for care settings
  • How to monitor and record nutrition and hydration needs and outcomes
