Care Champion Training Courses

This year, we have introduced a wide variety of care champion courses which have so far gone down really well with our care customers and have proved really popular with the staff members who have attended.
In many settings, the mix of knowledge and skills needed to provide care is very broad and the expectations that one person can ‘know everything’ is proving hard to achieve. Therefore giving individual staff members the responsibility of specialist skills then spreads the growth of knowledge across the team instead. CQC have been praising the role of the ‘Champion’ within care settings and those achieving ‘Outstanding’ ratings are likely to have adopted care champions already within their setting.
Peer support is a very important way for individuals to develop and learn at work, and so giving staff the motivation to share best practice can dramatically change attitudes and practice in the workplace.
Examples of positive improvements include:
Medication champion now responsible for informing staff of updates and runs a monthly ‘drop-in’ session for staff with questions or concerns, ultimately reducing some errors and confusion about medications
Dignity champion now responsible for challenging dignity and respect issues in the workplace, and emphasising the importance of dignity for the people that they care for to improve the attitudes of other staff

Who should attend
Any staff member who wants to take on additional responsibilities and who wants to gain the awareness and skills to be the ‘go to’ person on a specific topic in their workplace. The willing champion must be highly motivated, dedicated and passionate about their job role, and the topic they wish to become a champion in, and someone who wants to continually develop in their role.
A Champion should be willing to:
Challenge incorrect or disrespectful behaviour
Act as a role model
Speak up to make changes
Influence and inform colleagues
Listen to, understand and incorporate the views of the people who use their services
Certification
Upon completion of the course(s), attendees will receive a certificate of attendance.
